These notes apply ONLY to those customers who use the Metalogic TRIM product and whose current OPALTAPELIB library version is OLDER than 450.01 (released February 1999). If you have a recent release CD or container from Metalogic and use the TRIM product, please check the response to the TP VER command from a Supervisor window:
If the OPALTAPELIB library version is 450.01 or greater then the following can be ignored; however, if your version is EARLIER than 450.01, a major upgrade of the METATAPELIB database will occur.
If you are installing this new version of TRIM, the INSTALL utility has now adopted a new method of handling changes to the METATAPELIB DASDL. Previously, changes were made directly to the shipped DASDL which required BUILDREORG runs to be generated during the installation. Such attempts to use BUILDREORG have always given us major problems so a new mechanism dumps the existing database to flat files, creates a new database, named METATAPELIB4, and re-loads the previously dumped data into METATAPELIB4. This process means that the old database remains intact (METATAPELIB) and can be retained until the user is satisfied that the conversion has been successful.
The generated flat files will be created under the installing usercode:
METATAPELIB/DUMP/HIST
METATAPELIB/DUMP/MEDIA
METATAPELIB/DUMP/RULES
It must be noted that since the database name will have changed, any WFL jobs used to dump the tape library database must also be changed (i.e. METATAPELIB => METATAPELIB4). Also, the name of the generated OPALTAPELIB library codefile has been changed to *METALOGIC/OPALTAPELIB4.
NOTE: Please do NOT bring down the TAPE LIBRARY or SUPERVISOR before or during the INSTALL process.
A new ODTS has been added to the released OPALs file, OPALS/TPDB. The ODTSequence TPDB_REVERT should be used to switch back to the old METATAPELIB database, if any problems are encountered in the install.
In the event that a fallback is necessary, reload the codefiles from the previous release, then from a Supervisor window:
TT DO TPDB_REVERT
SEND TM QUIT (if running TAPEMANAGER)
TT TP C LOSE
TT DELINK OPALTAPELIB
TT QUIT SUPERVISOR
